And as expected, boredom starts to set in.<\/p>\n<p>However, let\u2019s clarify one thing first\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boredom is NOT the absence of things to do.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You may think that you\u2019re bored because you have nothing to do at home but that\u2019s not really the case.<\/p>\n<p>According to John Eastwood, an associate professor at the department of psychology at York University (YU) in Toronto, Canada, boredom is that \u201c<em>uncomfortable feeling of wanting but being unable to engage in satisfying activity<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boredom is the absence of \u2018wanting to do anything\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eastwood should know; he has been studying boredom for almost 20 years and manages the YU\u2019s <em>Boredom Lab<\/em>. &#8220;<em>The bored person knows there are things to do. The problem is they can&#8217;t muster up an actionable desire.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So boredom is not that you have nothing to do, you just can\u2019t seem to find the \u2018desire\u2019 to do anything.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boredom is the absence of \u2018clarity\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When there are a lot of things \u2013 big and small \u2013 around us, the absence of clarity, either in the form of a \u2018list\u2019 or an \u2018action plan\u2019, prevents us from acting on that thing.<\/p>\n<p>And so, without further ado, here\u2019s a quick list of things to do while on \u2018lockdown life\u2019.<\/p>\n<h2>Top 10 Things to Do to Survive Boredom At Home<\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"bffindent\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><span class=\"bffhash\">1<\/span> Call Him\/Her<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Remember that person, family or friend, you always wanted to call and just get back in touch with? Well, NOW is the time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>27 years without closure\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One friend of mine actually got in touch with an ex, NOT to try and get back together, but to ask something that has been bugging her for the past 27 years.<\/p>\n<p>Almost three decades ago, she was in a relationship with him and she became pregnant. Things did not work out; they broke up; and she\u2019s raised their daughter on her own.<\/p>\n<p>She has no issues with being a single parent, but all these years she never had the courage to ask him\u2026 \u201cWHY?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhen I look back, it seems like he just \u2018disappeared\u2019 overnight. Not even true because our families knew each other and so over the years we would even run into each other but there was just no actual closure for me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSo I sat down, called him, and asked MY burning questions\u2026 was there even love? What was HIS reason for breaking up?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe both have wonderful families now but to me that was not the point. I just needed proper closure. I\u2019ve always wanted to call him and have that conversation\u2026 and now I did.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"bffindent\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><span class=\"bffhash\">2<\/span> Pick Up a New Positive Habit<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>What NEW thing do you want to do that will uplift your mood and spirit?<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I\u2019ve been into yoga the past years but I\u2019ve never really immersed myself deep into it. So that\u2019s exactly what I did.<\/p>\n<p>I checked some free yoga videos online, and then I rolled out my yoga mat and just started moving.<\/p>\n<p>My routine was simple.<\/p>\n<p>Wake up, do my morning bathroom rituals, make lemon water (lukewarm), roll out my yoga mat and do a 15-min routine. (I know, this last one can be brutal! hahaha)<\/p>\n<p>Put that all in one pile and sort what to throw and what to donate.<\/p>\n<p>I promise, at the end of this endeavor, you\u2019ll feel LIGHTER.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"bffindent\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><span class=\"bffhash\">4<\/span> De-clutter? Re-fresh? Remodel? Renovate?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>You don\u2019t need to give your house a complete makeover, girl! Just do this one step OR room at a time.<\/p>\n<p>For example, during these self-quarantine days, does everyone seem to be in the living room? If yes, then\u2026 look at your bedroom or kitchen first!<\/p>\n<p>Seriously, it\u2019s much easier to tackle a room where there\u2019s no one there right? \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Ok, say you chose your bedroom; first thing to do is <strong>de-clutter<\/strong>. Here\u2019s my personal rule of thumb: if I\u2019m not using it or it has no actual purpose, it goes in the box (storage).<\/p>\n<p>After you\u2019ve cleared some stuff away, what do you think could <strong>re-fresh<\/strong> the room? New bed sheets? If you don\u2019t want to buy new sheets, that\u2019s perfectly fine!<\/p>\n<p>Just mix and match your current sheets. Again, all up to you.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"bffindent\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><span class=\"bffhash\">5<\/span> Try a New Recipe \/ Try to Meal Prep<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>One thing\u2019s for sure, lockdown life has sent many people into their kitchens. I say, embrace it!<\/p>\n<p>This is the perfect time to learn a new recipe (or why not a whole new cuisine?), know how to bake, and discover the joys and health benefits of meal prepping!<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"bffindent\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><span class=\"bffhash\">6<\/span> Explore INDOOR Fitness<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Unearth all those late-night fitness equipment purchases you\u2019ve made\u2026 but never used.<\/p>\n<p>Seriously though, you DO NOT need to go out to get fit. The internet is your best friend here because there are literally THOUSANDS of free online fitness workouts you can follow indoors.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"bffindent\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><span class=\"bffhash\">7<\/span> Read a Book<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Many of us own a stack of books we\u2019ve been wanting to read for some time now. Well, guess what? NOW is that time.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to take this a step further, then why not read something that will enhance your CV?<\/p>\n<p>Invest in furthering your education by reading or learning something that will improve your skills.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"bffindent\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><span class=\"bffhash\">8<\/span> Prepare an Emergency Home Spa Kit<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>You know this won\u2019t last forever. Sooner or later, we will all go \u2018back to the grind\u2019 and you\u2019ll be yeeeeeearning for those lazy days at home. So prepare for that moment by having a \u2018spa kit\u2019 ready.<\/p>\n<p>In a box, put some scented candles, scented oil, a special loofah, a face mask, a hair mask, and anything else you may need to de-stress.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"bffindent\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><span class=\"bffhash\">9<\/span> Start a Veggie Garden in Your Kitchen<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>These days have re-awakened my desire to grow my own vegetables again. And you don\u2019t even need so much space!
